Glorious Night

I hear predictions of auroras frequently and even have an app on my phone. Often, cloudy skies that hide any spectacle, or a shimmer of light only visible to the camera have been the result of a trek to chase something amazing.
This time though, was different. Having heard about the potential on Radio 4 whilst driving home, even Ali, my wife was enthused. So at 9pm, we set off for a walk up the lane, onto a nearby hillside and watched the sunset.
Darkening skies revealed stars, and there seemed to be a glow in the sky when photographed. Then at around 10.30, it was obvious that we were going to witness something even with the naked eye .For the next 15 minutes the intensity of the green grew, then it was possible to see the shimmering and streaks. The next hour and a half flew by, as the display, now in technicolour, moved across the night sky, directly overhead, and then towards Porthmadog, before a final glimmer back to the north, over Llan Ffestinog.
